Through our Broadway Sessions, SFYS brings the magic of Broadway to seniors who can’t attend the theater for physical or financial reasons. Thanks to grants from Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, we’ve been able to bring cast members from over fifteen productions to seniors all over New York City. I’m happy to call some special attention to a very underserved and a very invisible group of people. Not just aging people, but aging gays and lesbians. It’s a very near and dear piece of the population that doesn’t get a lot of attention.
— Beth Malone (Alison in Fun Home) at the SAGE Center
When Sing For Your Seniors brought cast members from ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ to Calvary, these talented and giving performers provided a much-needed and much-appreciated diversion for our patients and their families. Their kindness and care provided a ‘normalized’ atmosphere that truly enhances the quality of our patients’ lives.
— Eddie Gorman, Title Coordinator of Therapeutic Recreation at Calvary Cancer Hospital
Though we may be from different generations, our art and the music connects us in ways one cannot explain. Speaking with the residents and hearing their stories was such a special treat, and it was a joyful morning I won’t soon forget. I cannot wait to visit again.
