The residents at 305 West End Assisted Living were eagerly awaiting our arrival. Shannon started us off with a hilarious “Comedy Tonight.” She always brings such wonderful energy to the session. Shannon can do anything from a funny belty song, to a challenging soprano song like “Climb Every Mountain.” Staying in the Rodgers and Hammerstein theme, Maggie followed with “The Sound of Music,'' which always gets at least one senior to sing along. It turned into a beautiful duet with a senior who loves this song and knows every word. Jackie has been with SFYS for a long time, and she is always trying out new material. At this session, she even accompanied herself on the ukulele. When she sang “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” the entire room sang with her!
Emily sang “Spark of Creation” in her stunning voice that carries across the room. She joined us this year and has shown such dedication to our mission. We are always grateful to have her sing with us. As Emily sang “On My Own,” one senior stood beside her and held her hand. It was such a simple and beautiful moment that was so special to see.
We are so lucky to be able to serve alongside our singers and our wonderful accompanists. Sometimes even a city like New York City can feel lonely. But love and friendship always surrounds our artists and seniors at a Sing For Your Seniors session. The audience was full of smiles, singing, and dancing during this session. We cannot wait to see them again!
