From our Founder
Welcome!
Sing For Your Seniors was inspired by the connection I felt with my Great-Grandma Dee Dee, through music. She always loved hearing my friends and me sing when we visited her care home – which would often draw-out her housemates from their rooms, creating a unique opportunity for social interaction. Her emotional response showed me how powerful musical theatre story-telling can be for seniors, especially those who are showing signs of withdrawal, dementia symptoms, or experiencing isolation.
I knew I had to find a way to bring live performances to seniors who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to experience them. In Great-Grandma Dee Dee’s honor and memory, I founded Sing For Your Seniors in 2005 at the Village Adult Day Center in New York’s West Village.
Over the years, Sing For Your Seniors has grown to include hundreds of volunteer performing artists and pianists. We’ve given over 1,087 performances, bringing the joy and therapeutic value of music to many thousands of seniors. We average about 85 performances per year with residencies at many different hospitals, assisted-living facilities and seniors centers in the New York area and beyond.
This organization is proud to serve as a bridge for artists to use their gifts to impact seniors in our community. Please check out this video of SFYS on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
