A message from Jackie Vanderbeck, the founder of Sing For Your Seniors:
“I’ve been performing in these spaces, for these special audiences for 20 years, and today all that history joined me at the mic for my most meaningful Sing For Your Seniors session yet – my mom now in the front row.
Making this moment even more magical were my dear friends, Kiera, Kate, Graham, and Brett.
My heart burst watching each of them immediately connect to individual audience members while their extraordinary voices soared through the packed room. They inspired smiles, swaying, singing along, and even tears. It was so affirming of the great importance of this work – work that we all began together 20 years ago.
My mom continues to amaze me with her resilience and joyful heart. She was so excited for her fellow residents to experience our performance and gleefully handed out flyers last week encouraging her new community to attend. After the session, everyone was buzzing with conversation, telling stories, and making new friends – a true celebration of our mission, “to create shared joy.”
Sharing Sing For Your Seniors with my mom in this new way fills me with a kaleidoscope of emotion, and the biggest among them is love. She encouraged me to find my voice and wherever she is, I will always sing to her.
